Free House Plans

Are there Free House Plans anywhere?

Our research has not turned up any actual free house plans that would be adequate for building a house. There are, however, many different web sites that let you search and browse house plans for free (with the ultimate goal of selling you the real thing). Another big source of house plan pictures are books and magazines.

How much do house plans cost then?

Realistically, you will have to pay at least 500 - 1500 dollars for a set of house plans. This depends on a number of factors, for example, you will need copies for builders, local government offices, etc. - depending on your local regulations and other factors you may need a larger number of plans. House plans also come in different formats, depending on how much you want to modify the stock plans. The more flexible plan options (computer files) cost more money.

But I've seen "free house plans" advertised on other sites...

As the saying goes, there's no such thing as a free lunch. All "free" offers that we've seen so far just want your email address, so that they can send you advertisements for their plans, hoping that you will buy from them later.

So, what should I do to find a great house plan?

You may have noticed that the amount of house plan information on the web is quite overwhelming. We created free house plans (free-house-plans.org) as an honest guide for potential house plan buyers.
